Club News | Feb ‘26
Another month has passed and the committee has continued to work away in the background to improve the experience and enjoyment for all you lovely members. We have some exciting news to announce! Phil Van Peborgh and Hayleigh Armstrong have both joined the club’s management committee and are already helping us with some great ideas for club improvements and events. Watch this space!
We have had a few new members join us this month so for those who are interested, you can also hire the dart board, pool table or table tennis facilities if you are at a loose end and want to get out of the rain for a few hours at the club! Prices are below:
Dart board: FREE to members!
Pool Table: The table is free to use but pool cues are £1 each to hire.
Table Tennis (Check club session times in case this is in use): FREE to members!
For those members who have private court bookings and would prefer to pay the lights via card payment rather than our light meters, please note that due to the card transaction fees we incur, a £1 fee will be added to your payment. We alternatively have spare coins available for you to change notes for the light machines if needed. We are aware and acknowledge the frustrations around our coin-based light meters and are actively investigating the functionality to link the light meters to eBooking court bookings to automate the lights, as well as removing the coin-based payment. This would require funds to cover this and the most optimal way forward is being investigated by the committee.
We have recently updated our club Terms and Conditions which you can see in the membership account area of your eBooking accounts. These can also be accessed via the member’s googledrive folder or by clicking here.
Shuffleboard
Our monthly shuffleboard night was another success and team ‘What a Kershuffle’ were the proud winners this month - well done! The next shuffleboard evening will take place on 18 April and posters will be put up shortly advertising the evening and all the relevant details.
Horse racing evening
The Club has agreed to host a horse racing evening on 8 May and posters will be printed shortly providing details. It is free entry but participants are asked to bring along a prize for the raffle that will take place during the evening. Don’t nag us about the Club premises as, nay, we will not be using real horses!
Shout out for volunteers: We are always on the hunt for volunteers to help with various things around the club as the committee cannot cover everything the club needs all the time. If any members can help with anything such as bar cover, helping with events, or anything else you think would be of benefit, please drop us an email at admin@lbsc.org.uk
If any club members could help us cover the club session attendance process for an hour at a time, this would be greatly appreciated. This will involve logging member attendance at club sessions for the first hour when people arrive and taking payment. Currently the committee members have racked up over 185 hours this month of volunteer (unpaid) time out of the kindness of their hearts to ensure that all our club members can enjoy the club and keep it running. If you could contribute even a small amount of your time to keep the club running and continually improve it, this would be hugely appreciated.
Recent Committee Activities
Guy has been putting in a lot of time to ensure the club is running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Guy has recently organised a legionnaire assessment which was carried out recently and the fire risk assessment has also been done. The stairlift has now been serviced and is back in working order. If you need to use this and are unsure how to, please speak to a member of the committee or bar staff. You will also notice that a new first aid kit has now been placed in the club which can be found opposite the men's changing rooms and the vending machine before you enter the badminton courts, should anyone need to use this. A reminder that we will need to update the accident log book if anyone does injure themselves within the club so please let us know if this is the case.
John is currently fostering relationships with Karen and Will along with external coaches to develop the coaching facilities at the Club. At present the weekly junior coaching sessions are continuing and we hope to start another ‘Back to Badminton’ course after Easter. In addition we are looking to organise a range of coaching courses for the different levels of standard in the summer. John is also making arrangements to hold an exhibition evening where county and hopefully some internationals will be invited to play. We are also looking to host an annual tournament in the summer. Further details will be provided as and when they are confirmed.
The committee has also been looking into various aspects of the club and have been investigating ways to reduce costs and keep outgoings as low as possible. We have also been looking to organise some summer Badminton tournaments and other social events so please watch this space!
